We provide unmatched innovation, expertise and success in the hospitality industry, with undoubted potential ahead.
1960s-1970s
A true success story, Interstate Hotels & Resorts started small. In 1960, we began with a single motel in Pennsylvania. We first expanded to develop and operate Howard Johnson properties throughout the state. Then, in the early 1970s, we began our long partnership with Marriott, building on our expertise in hospitality industry development, ownership, and operations. By the end of the decade, we owned and operated four hotels with 1,800 rooms across four states. Our upward trajectory would continue.

We developed additional Marriott-branded properties: the Pittsburgh Airport Marriott; the Sawgrass Marriott in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; and the San Francisco Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf. As the decade came to a close, we operated 25 hotels in partnership with Marriott. We also created relationships with other prominent hotel companies, leading to an extraordinary 29 hotels with more than 10,300 rooms in 15 states in our portfolio. Much more was to come, soon.
