Meet our Chief Operating Officer, JC Denis. JC is a relatively new appointment and brings a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry with him to the role. Here, he gives us an insight into his post, tells us about what he is enjoying the most about working at Interstate and gives us a little-known fact about himself.

Tell us about your role and what it involves?

JC: My role is to be responsible for all operational areas of our international division. This covers everything from rooms, food and beverage, spas, meetings and events and even golf.

The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for ensuring that our hotels comply with local regulations as well as brand standards. This is especially important in the current climate and we have been extremely proactive in all of the countries within which we operate since the beginning of the pandemic.

Last but not least, we in Operations are responsible for leading all of the General Managers and teams who work in our hotels and in turn all of the guests who stay in our hotels.

What does a typical day in your role involve?

JC: There is no typical day! I do try to make sure that there is time to catch up with our operational Vice Presidents who are each responsible for a region and hold a portfolio of 20-30 hotels. It is also important for me to have a daily catch up with the Interstate International executive committee and discuss strategy, projects, and of course performance of our hotels.

Part of the day ideally should see me onsite at our hotels. It is important to me to be out in the field and my goal is to visit at least one of our hotels each day. This is where everything happens and it is important to stay connected. I am here to support our hotels and owners and I need to be visible to them to be able to do that.

What’s your favourite part of your role?

JC: People, people, people. It is the teams for me. I am a people person and the current situation with the lockdown and restrictions has been very difficult. I miss organising big meetings and conferences and seeing people face to face.

You’ve joined Interstate from an owner and operator background. What do you think makes Interstate stand out from the crowd?

JC: It is clear to me that Interstate strives to always be best in class in all that it does, so that is for the owners, the guests, and the Interstate employees. This philosophy runs throughout the company and it was clear to see from day one.

Interstate Hotels & Resorts is Aimbridge Hospitality’s International Division and the company has grown and developed to become a global leader in the industry.

Tell us something about you that not everyone knows?

JC: I am a huge Bruce Springsteen fan and I mean huge! I have seen him perform so many times and will always remember seeing him play in New York. He is a fantastic storyteller, and he is not afraid to stand up and share his political opinions and speak out for human rights.
