In our latest ‘Getting to know you’ feature, we hear from Craig Bingham who has worked with Interstate Hotels & Resorts for nearly three years. He has recently been appointed as Business Development Sales Director and gives us a flavour of what his new role involves.
Tell us about your role and what it involves?
CB: My role as Business Development Sales Director is very much centred around driving pro-active sales opportunities across the Interstate Hotels & Resorts portfolio and representing our hotels out in the field across Europe. Global lead generation is integral to what I do as I am responsible for identifying cross-selling opportunities in Europe, Russia and North America and leverage brands and accounts internationally.
What does a typical day in your role involve?
CB: In this role, there is no such thing as a typical day, every day is very different, which is one of the reasons why the role of Business Development Sales Director is such a great position. One day I may be meeting with a client or a hotel brand, the next attending a trade show or a networking event and the following day I might be attending a meeting with one of our pre-opening hotels. Travel is extensive, but face to face meetings and dealings are still key to what we do to drive our relationships with all interested parties across the globe.
What’s your favourite part of your role?
CB: There are numerous elements – meeting people, both old and new; being proud of a product that quite literally delivers what it says; working with and learning from some of the best in the industry; having the opportunity to make a difference.
What, in your opinion, makes Interstate stand out from the crowd?
CB: A couple of key points make us stand out from the crowd, the first being that we are a leading third-party management company and secondly, the fact that, as a company, we genuinely care about what we do and the success of the business. Ultimately our success, means success for our owners and everybody involved.
