Meet Gary Hosie, Vice President of Property at Interstate Hotels & Resorts for the UK.
Tell us about your role and what it involves?
Gary Hosie: My role within Interstate is very broad as the department provides support to the development team in winning new Hotel Management Agreements, as well as providing construction and property advice to new owners.
The property department also supports all new build hotels with both technical service and pre-opening input.
We also offer project management services to clients for large capital and refurbishment projects and support the portfolio with property, compliance and maintenance guidance.
What does a typical day in your role look like?
GH: No day is the same due to the huge variety of aspects that the department addresses.
It could be a range of anything from meeting prospective clients and visiting potential hotels, meeting the brands to debate Property Improvement Plans and giving technical service support on new build hotels, to attending new build, refurbishment design and construction progress meetings.
One day I could be visiting a portfolio of hotels with my team to ensure we are supporting the business from a quality and compliance perspective, while the next I could be meeting consultants and suppliers who wish to work with Interstate.
What’s your favourite part of your role and why?
GH: It’s very difficult to say, but I do like the diversity of our portfolio and the variety of roles we play within the business.
What, in your opinion, makes Interstate stand out from the crowd?
GH: It’s clear after working within the business for over two years that we are passionate in getting the job done, we are very professional in our approach, committed to our clients and focused on achieving excellence.
