A new hotel and spa complex in Northern Ireland has become the latest hotel to join Interstate Europe Hotels & Resorts’ UK portfolio.
The £20million four star Merrow Hotel and Spa complex in Portstewart – which has just been awarded planning permission - will be managed by the leading third-party management company, adding to its portfolio of more than 70 hotels across the UK.
Work is expected to start on the complex’s construction in early Spring 2018.
Nicholas Northam, managing director for the UK at Interstate Europe, said: “The Merrow Hotel and Spa development is an exciting addition to our growing UK portfolio.
“Visitor numbers are on the rise in the area and so the addition of a quality hotel makes perfect sense, especially in such a prestigious location on the stunning Northern Irish coastline.
“We’re confident the development will bring major benefits to the area - both to visitors in Portstewart and to the local community - we can’t wait to see work begin on the construction of the property in the near future.”
The Merrow Hotel and Spa complex plans to provide 118 rooms, a luxury spa with sea views, a leisure club with a 20m pool, a glass sauna and infinity pool, a steam room, a gym and studio, a demonstration restaurant, a bar/bistro restaurant, a signature cocktail bar, conference space, meeting rooms and nine chalets serviced by the hotel.
It will be located on Ballyreagh Road, Portstewart, adjacent to the start and finish line of the world renowned motorcycling event the International NW200. It would also become the official home of the NW200, with the event offices located within the grounds.
With two world class golf courses on its doorstep, the Merrow is also set to be an ideal destination for golfing enthusiasts. Portstewart has an excellent links course and is frequently described as one of Northern Ireland’s hidden gems, while Royal Portrush, which will host the 2019 Open Championship, is only a few miles away.
Vivienne Gilholm from Merrow Hotel and Spa, said: “We’re looking forward to working with Interstate as we get closer towards creating the North Coast's first luxury seafront hotel and spa.’
The signing marks Interstate Europe’s second new hotel signing in less than a month, following the announcement that the third-party management company has been appointed to take over the management of the Ramada Encore in Bournemouth.
