It’s been a busy but incredibly inspiring few days here at Interstate Europe Hotels & Resorts. Over 100 members of our team descended on the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Leeds for our Meetings and Events Optimisation Workshop (MEOW). In our latest blog, Vice President of Revenue Carol Dodds gives us the lowdown on the conference and the importance of sharing expertise as part of the process to drive business growth.

“There is no better feeling than seeing a team working as one sharing their insight and knowledge and striving to generate ideas and improvements across a business. That is exactly what I have witnessed over the last week as sales and revenue professionals from across our portfolio came together to discuss our meetings and events offering. I have been so proud of all my colleagues who attended. I could say I’ve been like the cat that got the cream ever since we held the aptly named MEOW conference!

“The agenda covered a wide range of topics but essentially the aim was to provide a forum for us to think about how to meet the needs of our customers of the future in the meetings and events market.

“We heard from some fantastic guest speakers including from Capita Travel 7 Events who spoke about creating demand by doing things differently. This is such an important point, particularly at a time when we are going through a period of rapid change. It is more vital than ever that we stand out from the crowd and keep on top of our game by understanding what our competitors are doing and how we will respond and react to the customers of tomorrow.

“We discussed the significance of the run up to Christmas and how creative and imaginative we have to be in our sales and marketing drive. Social media is playing an increasing role in our day-to-day life and in our business it is no different. We highlighted the importance of engaging in interesting dialogue with our audiences so they know who we are and what we provide so we are seen as an attractive and ‘must-have’ option for them.

“Five years ago it was a common place notion that networking and meetings would be a thing of the past, but that is clearly proving not to be the case. If I needed any further proof of this, then MEOW has handed it to me on a plate. People still want to come together as a team in inspiring environments to bounce ideas of each other and develop strategic plans to move forward. As a business, we’re definitely doing it but we also have to ensure that our hotels are fulfilling that obvious need for our customers, too.

“MEOW has generated the ideas we required to make that a reality over the weeks and months ahead. The future is looking bright.”
