Interstate Europe has this week opened the doors to its newest hotel - Hotel Indigo Durham - bringing the total number of properties within its UK portfolio to 72.
Moments from the historic centre of Durham, Hotel Indigo, is located in the Old Shire Hall on Old Elvet following a £15m redevelopment of the building. It is just five minutes from the railway station and in walking distance of the University, castle and cathedral.
With a unique Tinderbox Espresso Bar, cocktail lounge, function space and Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill restaurant, the hotel also boasts 83 bedrooms all inspired by the city’s Norman ancestry whilst combining technology, style and comfort with stunning views of Durham Cathedral. In addition, there is a fitness suite and onsite parking.
Nicholas Northam, managing director of Interstate Europe Hotels & Resorts, said: “We are delighted that our latest offering to the UK market - Hotel Indigo Durham - is open and ready for business. It has been a fabulous journey to be part of.
“When we started this project, we were very aware how much the Old Shire Hall meant to the people of Durham so it was incredibly important to us that we, not only brought it back to its former glory, but also made sure that the historic features that make the building so special were kept so they could be enjoyed by generations to come.
“An enormous amount of hard work has taken place by the Interstate and Hotel team and we are really pleased with the end result which is topped off by the additions of the Tinderbox Espresso Bar and Marco Pierre White Restaurant. We feel we have created a really unique hotel and dining experience for our guests that will play a large part in Durham’s history and identity moving forward as the city looks to continue to grow as a visitor destination.
“The hotel also complements our portfolio really well as we look to continue to expand as the only pure third-party hotel management company in the UK.”
